Bulletin Archive - 2007 Friday, September 28, 2007 E-Parenting is the theme for National Media Education Week 2007, November 5 to 9. E-Parenting is a key responsibility of todays net generation parents. It is about understanding young peoples cyber culture and being actively involved in their Internet use. To celebrate National Media Education Week 2007, the Media Awareness Network and partner Canadian Teachers Federation will promote media education and encourage media literacy activities throughout the country. First-ever E-Parenting Tool During National Media Education Week, MNet will feature a national school-based program Parenting the Net Generation to educate parents about kids Internet use. Through the program, which was made possible with the support of Bell Canada, Parenting the Net Generation workshops are available free to English parent councils in every province and territory until July 31, 2008. MNet will also launch the first ever, French-language, online tutorial about Internet safety called Devenir e-Parent: un tutoriel pour suivre vos enfants en ligne. Devenir e-Parent is a self-directed tutorial which takes parents on a tour of the Internet through their childrens eyes. The tutorial explores five key topics: research and homework, online relationships, inappropriate content, online marketing and cyber addiction. Each topic takes about five minutes. This project was made possible thanks to financial contributions from Industry Canadas Francommunautés virtuelles program and Bell Canada.
